If you want to reply to prospects from your own Gmail address instead of Mentiohunt's shared inbox, you'll need to connect your account first. Mentiohunt doesn't support one-click "Sign in with Google" for this yet — you connect Gmail the same way you'd connect it to any third-party tool, using SMTP (for sending) and IMAP (for reading replies) with a Google App Password.
This is required on paid plans only (Pro or Agency). On a free trial or a canceled subscription, outreach keeps sending automatically, but you won't see the option to connect an inbox until you upgrade.
Step 1: Turn on 2-Step Verification
Gmail won't let you sign in with your normal account password from an app like Mentiohunt. Before you can generate an App Password, you need 2-Step Verification turned on for the Google account you want to connect.
If it's not already on, turn it on from your Google Account security settings.
Step 2: Generate a Gmail App Password
- Go to myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
- Create a new App Password (name it something like "Mentiohunt" so you remember what it's for).
- Copy the 16-character password Google gives you — you'll paste this into Mentiohunt, not your regular Gmail password.
Step 3: Connect the account in Mentiohunt
- In your Mentiohunt dashboard, go to Email Accounts.
- Click Connect account.
- Select Gmail / Google Workspace and click Continue.
- Decide whether this inbox should send automated outreach and follow-ups. This is off by default — if you leave it off, the inbox is only used so you can reply personally when a prospect responds. Turn it on if you want cold outreach sent from this address too.
- Fill in the connection form:
- Send from / Email address — your name and the Gmail address you're connecting.
- SMTP (sending) — host and port are pre-filled (
smtp.gmail.com, port587). For username, enter your full Gmail address. For password, paste the App Password from Step 2 — not your normal Google password. - IMAP (reply reading) — host and port are pre-filled (
imap.gmail.com, port993). Leave Same credentials on unless you want a different login for reading replies.
- Click Connect account.
Mentiohunt tests the connection live before saving it — if either SMTP or IMAP fails, you'll see which one broke so you know whether it's a credentials issue or something else. The most common cause is pasting your regular Google password instead of the App Password from Step 2.
Once connected, the account shows up on the Email Accounts page with its status and daily send cap. Credentials are encrypted at rest, and Mentiohunt only uses the account to send from that address and read replies to it.
